Information for Sensory-Sensitive Visitors
Our museum is often visited by school classes and kindergarten groups, particularly on weekday mornings. Even with great consideration, noise levels in the museum can be higher at these times. Therefore, we recommend visiting during the afternoon hours, on weekdays from 2pm onwards. You can also inquire with our visitor service shortly before your visit.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Why are there no wheelchair ramps?
Unfortunately, we cannot install ramps due to building and heritage protection reasons. Ramps must have a specific slope and width, and after thorough evaluations, it was determined that ramps would not fit in the required locations within the museum. Additionally, ramps would not comply with fire safety regulations. We know that ramps would be a better solution for wheelchair users, but sadly we are unable to offer them at present.
I am visiting alone and need accessible access. How do I get help at the museum?
Our visitor service is happy to help. When you arrive at the museum, please use the accessible entrance under the bridge between the Damm 40 and 42 buildings. You can ring the bell there to speak directly with the visitor service. The team will open the door for you and operate the stair lifts for you. Assistance is also available at the shop and in the Open Space. You are also welcome to call our visitor service at +49 (0)441 40570 300 before your visit to register and clarify any further questions.
Are all exhibition rooms wheelchair accessible?
Except for the mineral vault with the “Noble Stones” exhibition in the basement of Damm 42, all exhibition rooms are accessible.
I need a wide car parking space. Does the musuem have such spaces?
Yes, the museum has larger car parking spaces. Please drive your car under the glass connection bridge between the building parts. From there, you will reach the accessible entrance directly.
Is there a toilet for peole with disabilities?
Yes, there is a toilet specifically designed for people with disabilities, located at the accessible entrance opposite the elevator.
What about other disabilities?
Blind and deaf people, individuals with a mental disability or learning difficulties are of course very welcome in our museum. We strive to accommodate various types of disabilities in our programme. We offer special guided tours upon request.
