Directions

How to get to us

On foot

It takes only about 5 minutes on foot from Schlossplatz (Castle Square) to reach us. The main train station is about a 15-minute walk (1.3 km) from the museum.

Directions from Oldenburg’s main train station: exit the station towards the city centre/pedestrian zone. Cross the square into Kaiserstraße. At the end of the street, turn right onto the street called Stau. Then stay to the left and continue left onto Huntestraße. Follow it to Damm street. Cross the traffic light intersection and turn left onto Damm. After approximately 250 meters, you will find the museum on the right side of the street.

By bus and train

The city of Oldenburg is accessible by train and several long-distance bus services. For current travel options, you can check on www.bahn.de (for both regional and long-distance Deutsche Bahn services) or on the pages of the long-distance bus services. Within Oldenburg or from nearby areas, you can reach us directly with the following bus services:

From the ZOB (Oldenburg’s central bus station behind the main train station) or “Hauptbahnhof Süd” bus stops, VWG bus service 315, as well as VBN bus service 270, 280, and 289, go directly to the “Staatsarchiv” bus stop right in front of the museum. Unfortunately, these bus services run only once an hour. Many different bus services stop at “Am Schlossplatz” bus stop. From there, it is another 5-minute walk to the museum.

If you’re visiting by train, you can board the VWG bus serviced right in front of the Oldenburg main train station (bus stop Hauptbahnhof-Süd). All bus services stop at “Lappan” in the city centre, where you can change buses. You can check current departure times with the VWG at the office counter at “Lappan” or on the internet at www.vwg.de.

By car

The old Cäcilienbrücke (Cäcilien Bridge) near the museum is in the process of being demolished. Therefore, the route is closed to traffic. This is not always shown in many navigation systems. If you are coming from Bremen, we recommend leaving the A28 highway at exit 14 “Marschweg” and then turning left four times: Marschweg, Niedersachsendamm, Westfalendamm, Damm. The museum will be on the left side after about 100 meters.

If you are coming from Emden/Leer on the A28 highway, we recommend taking exit 13 “Eversten”. From there, follow the signs towards the city centre until you see the large Lambertikirche (Lamberti Church) at the market. At this intersection, turn right onto Schlosswall, and at the next intersection, continue straight (in the right-hand lane) onto Damm. The museum will be on the right side after 250 meters.

While there are some parking spaces directly at the museum and in the nearby area (though some have a maximum parking duration of 1 hour), we recommend using the Park & Ride option. Follow the signs for this.
